City of Boston Open Space Plan
Every seven years the City updates its open space plan with accomplishments, upcoming improvements, and community needs. Parks Department planners hope you will weigh in! Members of our citywide Boston Park Advocates have shared their thoughts via the open space survey.
The Open Space and Recreation Plan will provide an overview of what's going on in Boston's park system right now and proposes actions for the next seven years.
Budget Advocacy
ADVOCACY FOR THE CITY OF BOSTON PARKS BUDGET
We need park advocates like you to take the message of open space advocacy to the Mayor and City Council.
For example, in June 2021, members of Boston Park Advocates testified in support of parks funding at the online Boston City Council budget hearing.

After a year of upheaval, our parks are more important and more used than ever before. Yet, the parks operating budget is still less than 1% of the City budget. To build climate resiliency, deliver a robust urban canopy, and improve parks for all communities, we need committed investment.
That’s why we enlisted sign-ons for Boston Park Advocates’ budget letter and are encouraged individuals and organizations to send letters of their own.
Read the letter we sent to Mayor Walsh on March 12, 2021 and the letter we sent to Acting Mayor Janey on March 25. In all, 145+ individuals and 60+ organizations signed on. Thank you!
